Silent Hill 1 Map building (Test)
« on: December 26, 2015, 10:21:42 AM »
Hi, first of all, i want to give thanks to the developer for this amazing program, is fantastic! and
sorry for my English, is not my native language.

Someone mention in a forum about Crocotile 3D, i saw a few youtube videos and i was amazed how
easy and fast you can build a level, so i give it a try.

Silent Hill 1 is made with tiles textures like ¨most¨ PS1 games, so i decided to try to recreate a portion
of the town to test the program, this is what i got so far:

These are some of the textures ripped directly from the game disc.
The textures resolution are: 256x256 and each graphic is composed by 32x32px

unfortunately i can't buy the program because i don't have the money right now, but im glad with
the results of this program, congrats to Alex!  :D

Hi Giromancy, thanks for sharing this!
I'm not that familiar with ps1 games, since I haven't played that many, but it is cool to see a game level recreated in Crocotile3d.
:)

This is a short video i made showing the process:

Very cool! Seeing a recording makes it easier for me to understand how others might be using the program. I really appreciate that. One thing I noticed is you were using the context menu to deselect things- you can also press ctrl+d to deselect (press once for verts and second time for faces). Might be easier than having to open the menu.
I also want to add more features/tools to make certain tasks easier that might otherwise be repetitive. Once the new keybinding system is complete I will be able to start on those things.
Thanks for the video! :)

Nice work! Looks like it has progressed a lot!
I'm interested to see how the Unity3d transition goes.

Wow, that looks really amazing!
Really excited to see where this leads. Are you planning to add some gameplay into it since you're using Unity, or will this be more of just a walk-around/display type thing?

By now is just a test thing, a walk-around/display like you said.

Here are some new screenshots:

And a short video:

Btw, i have a question about spliting in C3D.
Is there any way to split a tile in diagonal?

I have to make a sink and i need to make diagonal cuts in the corners to descend the middle area.

Here is an example made in G.Sketchup

Thanks in advanced! :)

Those look great! The video really makes it come to life!
As for the tile splitting, it currently doesn't support diagonal splits.
I recorded a video on how you can create that shape though: https://youtu.be/-TE7nF69DyY
When I drag a vert, it only drags one, and then I can hold shift and snap it to another vert. To move the uvs I right-click and drag in the tilemap. Set uv precision to 1 by 1 if you want to reposition uvs per pixel.
That should help?
I only did the inner part, but you could also do it to the outside parts to match your example completely.

I am literally burning with envy, Giromancy. These models are GORGEOUS! Did you have to modify the original textures to apply shadows etc, or are these all original textures?

Hi Polyducks, thanks for your words :), the textures used in this work are the original ones extracted directly from the game disc like i said in the main post.
The shadows were applied in the Unity 3D engine, also the lighting.

I just have release the first demo of this project, this demo was entirely made with Crocotile 3D, except for some complex objects
like beds and circular objects like bottles or trashcans:

First demo released v1.01 (RAR) (20.8Mb)
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30497817/AH1.01_DEMO/AH_V1.01.rar

Hope you like it and thanks to you Alex for doing this amazing program ;)
More updates soon!

Wow, that's impressive!
I played through it, and it feels really spooky. I can see that you put a lot of time into constructing everything- it's really cool to see such a large map and to be able to explore it all.
I haven't played SilentHills- so this all feels very new to me. It might be too scary for me, but I'm looking forward to seeing how far you take it.
Thanks for sharing this!
